Are the advertisements getting bigger or are the websites getting smaller? It seems like Youtube and other sites are being increasingly taken over by advertisements. Not that long ago sites like Youtube and Myspace had a small section of their home page devoted to an ad and the rest was the actual site. Today, Myspace’s entire homepage will often be the theme of an advertisement and Youtube’s corner devoted to ads is now a thick and menacing banner that dwarfs video options.
I don’t like it but people have to make money. Am I overreacting?

I think from an advertiser’s POV, it’s brilliant. From a consumer’s, its annoying – and that is what the advertisers want. They want you to see and think about the product, whether it be in a negative or positive light. Either way, it is on your mind, therefor – it is effective.
I came across a big, annoying advertisement on Nylonmag.com, my favorite magazine’s website, and on the top was an advertisement just like the one you depicted, but for iPods. I couldn’t click the toolbar without rolling my mouse over it, making it play. It even got in the way. It was annoying, but aI was able to notice: iPod.
